What is period poverty?
Period poverty is when women and girls cannot afford or reach safe menstrual products, clean water, a private place to change, or the information they need to manage their periods with dignity.
Health
Makeshift cloth, or one disposable pad worn for long hours to stretch the budget, raises the risk of infection.
Learning
Some girls miss school. Others are in class but can't take full part.

How long does one kit last?
More than two years if you wash, dry and store the pads properly. Our care guide shows you how.
Are reusable pads hygienic?
Yes, when they are washed with soap and dried completely, ideally in the sun. Careline pads are made in a factory from quality-certified materials, which is the difference from cut-up cloth.
How much does a kit cost?
Current kit prices are in our catalogue on the Order page. Schools, churches and companies ordering in bulk get pricing agreed case by case.
Can my school or church order in bulk?

A few simple habits keep your pads clean, soft and absorbent. Share this page with anyone new to reusable pads.
Wearing
Put it on
- Soft side up. Place the pad in your underwear.
- Fasten the wings under your underwear with the press buttons.
- Change when you need to. Heavier days need more changes.
- Fold and close the used pad with its button and keep it in the pouch until you can wash it.
Washing
Wash it clean
- Soak the used pad in cold water.
- Wash with soap and rub until the water runs clear.
- Squeeze out as much water as you can. It dries faster.
- Dry in the sun if you can. Under a cloth is fine for privacy.
- Check it's fully dry, then fold and store it somewhere clean and dry.
Monthly, optional
Deep clean
- Wash first with soap and clean water.
- Boil the pads in a pot for 10 minutes.
- Let the water cool before you take them out.
- Squeeze and sun-dry, leaving them about two hours longer than usual.
Why sun-drying matters: sunlight helps keep pads fresh. A pad that is still damp should not be worn or stored.

Spot a genuine pad
Know it's real before you pay.
Copies of popular hygiene products are sold in some markets. A fake pad isn't tested and won't last. Here is how to tell.
- 1Check the sewn tagEvery genuine pad has a small brand tag machine-stitched into its seam. It can't be peeled off.
- 2Check the packagingPacks are imported, sealed and printed with the kit name, pad count and product details. Loose pads or plain plastic bags are a warning sign.
- 3Check the stitching and feelEven, tight edge stitching, press buttons on the wings, and a soft top with a waterproof backing.
- 4Check the sellerBuy from Dertaur or a registered Careline vendor. Ask to see their vendor number.
- 5Check the priceA price far below normal usually means a copy or a refilled pack.
Think you've found a fake?
Send us a photo of the pack and the sewn tag, and tell us where you bought it. We check every report and follow up with the seller.
Batch tracking is coming. As volumes grow, every carton will carry a batch number linked to the vendor it was issued to.
About
Dertaur Investments and the Careline range
A Zimbabwean social impact investments company working on the menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) value chain within the SADC region.
Our story
Since 2023 Dertaur Investments has supplied and distributed AfriPads reusable pads in Zimbabwe as a registered distributor. Careline is our range of menstrual and sanitary solutions.
Our founders saw gaps in sanitary wear and hygiene products, especially for women and girls in vulnerable rural and urban communities. Alongside the pads we offer menstrual health training, training in sewing reusable pads, and materials for social enterprises.
Our manufacturer, AfriPads, makes the pads in Uganda. It is a social enterprise that has served more than seven million girls and women across 40 countries, and its pads are quality-certified and designed with the people who use them.

In 2025 Dertaur hosted a private-sector commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day on the theme of corporate social responsibility and ending period inequality.
National coordination: Dertaur is a member of the national Menstrual Health Management Multistakeholder Coordination Group, chaired by the Ministry of Women Affairs.
